Welcome to the Redesigning Teacher Education blog - designed specifically for members of the River Falls PDS Think Tank to share and discuss any articles, documents, or ideas relating to the redesign of teacher education and professional development schools.
Post away!
Thanks Stephanie, for setting up such a great place to begin our PDS conversation! Since our meeting, there has been much to think about. This blog will be a way we can share our thoughts between meetings.
ReplyDeleteI am excited about going to the National Professional Development School Conference in New Orleans in March, with some of you and learning more about ways to strengthen our partnership.
Nice job setting this blog site up Stephanie! I'll use it as an example next semester in my secondary education classes.
ReplyDeleteI've been doing some reading on the "cloud" and I do think it's here to stay; at least until the next unknown front strikes. Long before the term became common in the Internet world, I move there simply because of the lack of technical support, monetary issues, storage problems, my lack of expertise with traditional software implementation, etc.
I would love to educate and share with the members of this group and teachers in the field all these resources inside the "CLOUD"!
As we head into the holidays we all have some time to think about a focus for our partnership. As mentioned in the think tank meeting, there were several ideas that surfaced: technology, creativity, content or subject area focus. Talking with Jaime Schneider (secondary science) recently, I became aware of the interest in technology in the River Falls School District. At the same time, we started to talk about the need for enrichment.
ReplyDeleteIt would be great to hear from others about possible ways to clarify a focus for our partnership. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks Lee for your willingness to share your expertise!
Stephanie: I was over at the MMS this AM (12.23.2010) and spoke with both the principal (Mark) and the assistant principal (Rick). They mentioned that you are "free" this spring and I welcome you to attend my technology classes for secondary education teachers held every Tuesday and Thursday. One class starts at 9:30 and the other at 11 AM. You could check my syllabus and then decide what days might benefit you and in turn the teachers at the MMS. Let me know and happy holidays, Lee
ReplyDeleteThanks to Stephanie for getting this blog set-up. Many of you have probably already seen the report by the Blue Ribbon Panel on Clinical Preparation and Partnership, "Transforming Teacher Education Through Clinical Practice: A National Strategy to Prepare Effective Teachers." You can go to http://www.ncate.org/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=zzeiB1OoqPk%3D&tabid=715 for the report of go to http://www.nacate.org website. Good reading for our group. Happy Holidays to everyone!
ReplyDeleteStephanie
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder and I now on board. Who knows I may actually sort all of this out.
Kurt
Stephanie, thanks much for the reminder. Will be getting "up to speed" with all of this soon. Nice to see Mary, Lee, Faye, and Kurt had posted over the past couple weeks! I have been thinking about plenty of ways to strengthen the partnership between the UW and SDRF; Toni's comments from her past experience in the 80s was very interesting when we met in November. I do believe we can both help each other in what we would like and need to accomplish for the benefit of our students and staff. More to come...Mike J.
ReplyDeleteHello-I'm about to get my head in the "cloud". I had thought I was "posting" before, only to find out I wasn't. Well I'm lucky to have Stephanie nearby to help me out.
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say that I am excited about this partnership and I think it will be a win/win for everyone. I am most willing to help out with any mentoring matters or questions you may have. For now, I will keep researching and allow my mind to be creative.
Well, I believe I all set to go with this. I am still a little unsure about what it is we are doing or trying to work in the diretion of. I am hoping this blog will help answer my questions and all me to generate a few ideas.
ReplyDeleteNote: President Obama announced in the State of the Union Address that over the next 90-days he is going to work to cut 100-million dollars of
ReplyDeletespending out of the Federal budget.
As professors/teachers it's important to teach our prospective teachers the importance of visualization. Students learn differently, but most students learn better when they can visualize a concept. Click the link below and watch the video where a college student explains how elected officials use big numbers to impress their constituents, but when shown that same concept visually, it doesn't really make a dent
in our deficit spending.
This is worth spending one minute and thirty eight seconds to watch! Lee
